Alternative Treatments for Cancer
Alternative treatments for
cancer have been used by people in other
cultures for many years. Some treatments are very
effective for some people. Others may only work because
the patient believes they will work, much like the way
placebos sometimes work in medical experiments. However,
we believe that the more you know about the options, the more
you will be able to make intelligent, informed decisions about
the medical treatment, which may be right for you and your
particular medical conditions.

What is Cancer?
Cancer is a type of
disease that is caused by the abnormal functioning of cells
within an individual’s body. These cells grow at
uncontrolled rates and invade and destroy nearby tissues
within the body. Through a process known as metastasis,
these cells can also spread to other parts of the body far
from their origin through transportation by lymph and/or
blood. Cancer cells can, but don’t necessarily, create a
tumor, or swelling beneath the flesh, which is the basis for
regular self-examinations for cancer growths. Cancer can be
a very serious condition and its emotional and
health-related impact is not to be underestimated. Medical
treatments of cancer often have exceptionally strong side
effects, both mentally and physically, and as such
supplemental support and therapy is often essential.
Complementary treatment for cancer is an expanding field
today and is often incorporated with medical treatment. As
cancer and its treatment is varied, the following offer
differing benefits.
- Massage
Therapy has been shown to help with the fatigue that
is experienced by many chemotherapy patients.
- Exercises, unregimented or those such
as Yoga and Tai chi are suspected to help prevent cancer
from recurring, and are also shown to reduce stress
levels.
- Nutritional
Cures can often be implemented to help strengthen
immune systems and combat cancer and the effects of its
treatment. Common diets include eliminating milk, other
dairy products and sugar. However, beneficial diet
changes differ between individuals and nutritionists can
provide the best recommendations tailored to individual
needs.
- Fu Zhen is a traditional Chinese
therapy that is often used in conjunction with other
forms of cancer treatment. The primary goal of the
therapy is to enhance the body’s natural immune system
through the use of herbal supplements. The herbs
typically employed include ginseng, astragalus,
ganoderma and more.
- Acupuncture
has been proven to be helpful in relieving the nausea,
vomiting and pain that many people experience as the
result of chemotherapy.

helpful website that discusses many of the Complementary
Alternative Medicine opportunities; to visit it
